You’ll never use that
art degree.

Hi there. I am Ty Hickok, the designer, the artist, and the janitor around here.

My background contains an art degree I was told I would never use. “They” were kind of right as I settled into the boring corporate life of telecommunications for decades before really pursuing my passion for art, woodworking, and all things related to clean, modern design. My art degree was in a completely different field, medical illustration. That’s right, I can draw a human heart, eyeball, or muscle for you if you ever decide to engage in major surgery. Unfortunately, the internet took over, and the manual need for medical illustration dwindled. But that was way back then, and the artist's fire in my belly never died. I found my way back to creating and making beautiful things using alternative mediums.

My work includes anything from wall hangings, motif elements like cool lamps and sculptures, all things with geographical dimensions, cornhole boards, full home design remodels, and even a little furniture making, such as unique coffee tables.

Sugarcube Designs was formed in 2014 and founded in Springfield, Missouri. I named the company in honor my wife’s passion for volunteering with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to raise money for type 1 diabetes research. In late 2016, we moved the business to Edmond, Oklahoma, because her day job was relocated. Fortunately, the products of Sugarcube Designs move fluidly and have clients and customers all over the United States. It doesn’t matter where we are located, we will come to wherever you are. But I am not gonna lie… Oklahoma is a really great place to live.

Although I have an educational background in art, most of the creations in the woodworking department are self-taught. All that means is that everything I create is original and built with quality. My services are not just building or creating products. I also offer consultations for design ideas to refresh your decor or for the implementation of your remodel plans.

While everything I create today has nothing to do with an internal organ, my love for art and design has made my skills scalable to create unique elements you may love. “They” may have been kind of right, but “they” were also dead wrong.
